Let’s talk about traveling and how to pack during the winter, especially with the holidays right around the corner! Winter apparel takes up way more space in the suitcase than regular clothes, so it’s important to get creative in order to make everything fit. I’m a videographer, usually traveling with small kids, so it’s important to dress simple for the TSA fiasco, cozy for the chilly flight, and still look socially acceptable. 😉 I swear it’s always when I’m wearing something too cozy, like one of Brad’s raggy t-shirts, when I bump into someone important, or I end up having to go straight to a shoot! To me, there is nothing worse than feeling caught off guard and completely underdressed. Another thing I’m famous for is underestimating how cold it might be, and I end up stealing Brad’s hoodie for the whole trip — Poor guy! So after years of making these mistakes, I have finally got winter packing down to a science. A way to pack light, while still bringing a variety of simple, warm, and cute clothes. The first thing that I do is pick a general color theme, so that I can mix and match all of my outfits. My dirty little secret is that I often wear the same thing twice on my winter vacations. I just style a piece completely different than I did the previous day! It’s crazy how throwing on an extra layer, a scarf, or pairing it with a different pants can make a top look completely different. That’s why I really like Sierra Trading Post. They have great outfit pieces and accessories to keep you comfortable and feeling cute! This sweater is perfect for holiday travel, because you can dress it up with some layers and accessories, or it’s cute worn just how it is. Then for shoes, I only pack two pairs that match the color theme. One pair of good walking shoes, and then a nicer pair of shoes for going to church, out to dinner, etc. Outerwear is where packing gets tricky, because it takes up the most space! I like to bring a couple different jackets, because if it’s really cold, that’s what you will be outside wearing every single day. I like a little variety, especially so that I can tell the difference between the days in my pictures. 😉 Roll your jackets up super tight, put rubber bands around them, and then wear one of your jackets on the flight. It tends to get chilly on the airplane, anyway. If you’re like us and you can’t carry on your luggage (we have our diaper bag, laptop case, and camera bag), then put an extra outfit and your important items in your carry-on — Just in case your luggage gets lost! If you’re traveling this winter, I hope you found my ideas helpful! Travel safe this holiday season, and don’t forget to bundle up!
