Villa Rica, Chile

Dare I say that Villa Rica was my favorite place we visited in Chile? The giant volcano was beautiful but also freaked me out a bit, because it’s still active! My mother in law Gladys served her mission in this area, and she remembers some nights seeing the glowing lava dripping down the side of it… So crazy! I would be so scared to even live in a 10 mile range of that thing. Anyway, there is this big beautiful lake that surrounds the volcano, with the most crystal clear water you’ll ever see. We walked down to the shore and watched this boy catch little creatures, we giggled at his little bum crack that peeped out to say hello! He was really cute and friendly though, he even let us hold some of his little creature friends. Then we each payed $3.00 (Don’t you love South American prices?) and took a paddle boat out for an hour – they told us they would give us a “fine” if we jumped in the water from our boat, so what did we do instead? We dipped our bodies in as far as we could without getting our lifejackets wet – to hide all evidence, of course. Then we finished off the day by walking around in the sunshine, and eating some cotton candy – life could not get any better.
